Movie Summary: Carl and Molly Peterson are just starting their new life together–complete with a cute house, boring neighbors, stable jobs and the routines of newlywed existence. There’s just one unfortunate hitch in their perfectly constructed new world. And his name’s Dupree. Randy Dupree, Carl’s oldest friend and perpetual bachelor, has found himself with nowhere to go after being fired. Carl yanks his jobless/homeless pal out of the bar he’s living in and invites him to temporarily crash on the couch–that’s just what friends do. At first, Carl is quite pleased to have his good buddy as a permanent couch guest, while Molly bears the brunt of Dupree’s immature antics. But, as Carl becomes buried in his grown-up job, he finds it harder and harder to juggle Dupree and his responsibilities as a husband. To make matters worse, Dupree uses his ample spare time to become a great companion for Molly. Even her dad and the neighbors are falling for his carefree wisdom and charm–frustrating Carl to no end. Soon, everyone (but Carl) begins to root for Dupree to stick around. But as Dupree starts to become a fixture in the Peterson’s home, three becomes not just a crowd–but a full blown, hilarious catastrophe - (Courtesy of Yahoo Movies)

Review: Slow in parts but funny and entertaining. Owen stars in the movie comedy like his brother but different in a way that this is not a silly parody type comedy. I think Owen Wilson (Randy Dupree) stole the show in this movie as a likeable loser that wrecks the lives of his best friend and wife but ends up helping them patch thing together again. He reminds me of the same character (carbon copy) he played in Wedding Crashers with that happy go lucky spirit, carefree waiting for a lucky break but with a big heart. Kate Hudson (Molly Peterson) and Matt Dillon (Carl Peterson) was overshadowed by Owen and Michael Douglas. Matt Dillon wasn’t very impressive acting, playing an “ok” workaholic husband. Kate Hudson is ok in her sweet husband caring role. Michael Douglas (Molly’s dad) plays a good possessive dad that can’t bear to give his only daughter up to a guy he refuses to like. I think Vince Vaughn would have been perfect (and much funnier) in the role of Carl Peterson, i.e. paring the successful partnership back together again. Matt Dillon just looked as if he was trying too hard to be funny and impress - to the extent of overacting at times.

The movie was a little choppy at times, where it shifted from one scene to the other (running parallel stories) without proper continuity. It seemed like the producers tried to piece different storylines (written by different people) together and add humor to it. With that, the storylines were a little disjointed and not meshed fully. I thought that they could have done a better job with that. There were elements of friendship, romance, integrity, drama to name some of the many they tried to incorporate - a little too much for one movie in my opinion. However, it did give me a good laugh in parts.

Should you go watch it? … yes, as it is a light hearted comedy and if you want some good laughs.

Overall, I would say it is an “little” above average film.
