So which member of the White House staff do think is most important to President Bush?
The answer would be Blake Gottesman, a sublimely confident 26 year old whiz and $95,000 per year earning Presidential Aide a.k.a. the President’s “body guy” and “right-hand” man. His daily duties range from being a systems analyst, gatekeeper, diplomat and “membrane” between the President and the rest of his staff. His job is so important that he is tasked as the main contact/ representative between staff members and dignitaries at presidential events, the guy every white house staff member (regardless of “rank”) goes to first to relate messages to the president, and the main guy to make sure that messages are relayed/ loops are closed between the president and all governmental departments.
Big responsibilities for a 26 year old, with just a high school diploma, one that dropped out of college at 19 and has no college degree. Don’t let that fool you, he scored in one of the top 1% in his Graduate Management Admission Test and has been accepted to the prestigious Harvard Business School. He will thus “step down” as Presidential aide this fall to pursue his studies. Asked why he dropped out of college at such a young age, he says “I had the opportunity to work full time in a Presidential Campaign: A once in a lifetime chance. Now this is a guy that really knew what he wanted at 19 while everyone else had drinking and partying on their mind!
Oh yes, did I mention some of his other Presidential duties?… Bringing in catalogs from sports stores so that the President can choose his running shoes, fishing gear and sports clothes, in which Gottesman then purchases online … making sure that breath mints are in his pockets AT ALL TIMES for the President … and making the PB&J (Peanut Butter and Jelly) sandwiches for the President.
Deemed by Time Magazine as the one kid that “will go places”, Blake Gottesman’s future is very bright indeed. How many guys at 26 can boasta resume of being the “right-hand” man of the President, a 7 year veteran of the White House/the President’s election campaigns AND having The President of the United States as a person reference?
Good luck in your studies, I am sure it will not be the last we have heard of you.
Blake Gottesman was featured in the August 10th 2004 forum called “Ask the White House” - an online interactive governmental forum where you can submit questions to Administration officials and friends of the White House.
