I was very shocked and sad at the tragic death of Steve “the Crocodile Hunter” Irwin. Although I did not regularly see his documentaries, I was not oblivious to the fact that he was somewhat of a role model, a good showman, had many fans young/ old alike and contributed tremendously to society. He certainly did push life to the limits and is unfortunate that it ended up being the cause of his death. If there was ever a “positive” to his passing, it would probably be that he died doing something he loved.
My last memory of him will be a humorous one i.e. when he appeared in an ESPN television commercial this year. In that commercial, he wrestled Albert E. Gator, the University of Florida’s mascot, to the ground in an ESPN studio hallway.
Similiar guys like him that push things to the limit e.g. Jeff Corwin better learn from this. There is so much you can push/explore nature to the limit. It would be a good wake up call to the studio executives as well, as sometimes, it is not worth trying to get the extra ratings at the expense of someone’s life.
Steve Irwin, Rest In Peace: you will be missed.
