Do you recognize any of the icons above? They are social bookmarking icons that I see under many blog posts. Personally, I find it annoying and don’t really like to see it as it just adds clutter under a post. I highly doubt many people know what they all mean to actually click on it - therefore I question its effectiveness too.

I have read that a good guideline is not more than 5 social bookmarking icons under posts and the less the better. I strongly agree with 37signals in relation to this when they say “It’s the content, not the icons”.

However, if you still insist of putting dozens of bookmark icons under your posts … feel free to choose from the hundreds at 3spots.

    Exactly!

I personally use Labels but that’s for my own organization and finding of posts later. I still try to keep my labels to a minimum because they do show up after a post.

I recognize some of those. Not many of them, though. So I wouldn’t see a reason to put them on my site. If anything, maybe just Digg and del.icio.us (was that done right?) See, I’m showing how naive I am. :)

I use the ‘Socializer’ under my posts. It’s just a text link that directs you to a webpage with that post already bookmarked, and then you just pick which social bookmark links you want to add it too. It’s not a hassle, but If your not a member of that certain bookmarking tool(digg etc.) then it can become one. But I figure if people don’t know what it is they wont bother with it.

He is a link to a post of mine that could be bookmarked. Here Just an example. It explains itself on the page.

Once again, you can add those silly images but I also believe it gives a clutter feeling. Nothing wrong with a text link.

    I think it’s a clever idea.

Funny, this reminds me of the olden days when they created email netiquette which said you should only have five lines or less for your email signature. Same idea here, just a different medium. :) I don’t have any social bookmarks, I’ve been too lazy. I use StumbleUpon though, it’s just on my web browser and has a blog on it’s own if I use it that way.
