Miles seems to always be hungry. I have an automatic feeder for him (set for a 1/4 cup of dry food twice a day) and then I feed him a quarter can of wet food twice a day too. He is always meowing to want more food and I have seen him paw at the feeder to get more food out. Is he really that hungry, am I under feeding him or is he just plain greedy?
In looking at it, I may be overfeeding a little but he doesn’t look like he is overweight. I am always feeling guilty when he meows and purrs, then paws the feeder while I am in the kitchen — it’s like I am making him starve or something. He has been dewormed earlier this year so I don’t think it is any parasite related (although I may be wrong). Websites on the internet are pretty vague when it comes to this…. so I’ll be interested in hearing those out there having cats to what their normal feeding practices are and your thoughts on this.
Update: Another picture of Miles can be seen here.

Just be thankful that you have MILES!! Our big Maine Coon cat Lucy has been gone about 10 days now and I cannot find her. She is so pretty and we are so lonely with out her. Her name is Lucy. I have looked the neighborhood all over, putup signs and all the neighbors know to watch for her. Just pet Miles for me!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog…Come back again..Sandy

I spoil my cat Sasha! Sasha get a whole can of cat food a day and all the dry food she wants to eat. Also she gets Midnight Snack! My cat will likes ice cream. She’ll get in your face for Ice cream. Sasha goes outside and she does a lot of running from Trinity.
First cats eat more in the winter. The worm thing, lift up his tail and look at his butt or like around where he sleeps. You see something that looks like tiny rice then he has worms. Go to the vet and get the pill. If Miles runs around you could feed him more dry food. Sounds like you don’t want a fat cat. Take care of his teeth too. They get tarter problems.
Be safe…

On average, cats should weigh around 10 pounds according to my kitty vet. One of my cat’s is around 15 pounds and thus, has been put on a diet. That diet to LOSE weight is 1/4 cup of dry light food twice a day. Miles doesn’t look fat, but I can’t see his body. :)

I am bad I just leave food out. Mine act like they are starved when they have had full food bowls all day. So without casting aspersions upon poor Miles, I’d guess greed!

I think some breeds of cat tend towards weight problems more than others. More active cats would also require more food. Your best bet to find out if there is a problem with your cat or if you’re over feeding it is to check with your vet.

I wish I could be helpful on this one, but we’ve always just left food out for our cats and they tend to get fat later in life — a lot like most of my relatives. ;)
The idea that cats would eat more in the winter makes sense to me, though, so maybe a bit more would be warranted? If you can feel his ribs, he’s too thin, but he looks just right to me. But I’m a softy and tend to give my kids what they want whether or not it’s good for them. True confession. Must admit it.

I have one of those feeders that constantly dispenses dry cat food. I fill it up once a week and they eat whenever they want. Neither one is overweight so I guess they know when to stop.

When we had cats (2), we left a bowl of dry food out all day and let them share a can of cat food each day. They were not fat at all and quite lazy. I would say if Miles seems to want more dry food, let him have more. He doesnt seem to be fat at all.

Your cat, Miles, is a beautiful cat. Seeing him makes me miss my baby Chummer, who died a year ago november. But, Galileo, my tabby cries and bats at me and purrs and meows everytime I walk by his bowl. He’s perpetually hungry! I feed him 1/2 c. food per day and 1/2 can of wet food. He’s about 15 lbs, but he’s not over weight, according to my vet. Silly Galileo, he’s just greedy!

I’m afraid I don’t know. I always just left a full bowl and my cat never ate more than she seemed to need.
