Friday Hodge Podge: 9/22/06 | The Foo Logs

It’s a Friday and yet another week that just flew by real fast! Went out for dinner yesterday at Olive Garden and it quickly hit me that the super cold Ohio weather is slowly creeping up on us. It was a cool 60 F yesterday and it’s just going downhill from now on. Just not ready for it yet - summer please come back. I didn’t even go golfing this year!

Writing Project: Participated in the ProBloggers Writing Project for the first time (this week) where there were 5 excellent prizes to include a weeks stay at a beachfront resort in Spain, a $200 Amazon.com gift voucher and more. As it is not a competition per say, the winners are chosen at random. As I write this, I just received news that there were a total of 343 participants and with that, the names of the 5 winners … unfortunately I wasn’t one of them. Nevertheless, I had fun writing my article and it was a good way to network as well. My entry was “Useful Hacks for Windows XP“. In fact, I intent to write more hacks in the future as I received positive feedback from people emailing me wanting more. “Just feels good to be loved!”

Here are my top 10 “ProBlogger writing project” articles (besides my own ofcourse ;-)):

Numa Knocks In My Head: Thanks A LOT Jersey Girl for putting the Numa Numa tune in my head… someone please make it stop! I just keep seeing visions of Numa Boy hilariously singing it over and over again. Click at your own risk - don’t say I didn’t warn you! Also, seems like Numa Boy has a big following globally.

AJAX Start Page: I am a big fan of AJAX technology with its ability to adapt and interact with its user. Recently found a site called Protopage that allows me to create my own free AJAX startup page for my browser. Cool Beans!

Kreative Kris: My creative blogging friend, Kristarella who graciously visits and reads The Foo Logs (as I do hers) has done some pretty nice desktop backgrounds. Being a big fan of design minimalism and simplicity… I love the ones she came up with recently using Inkscape. I did download some of the desktop backgrounds she made - Thanks Kris!

SPAM BAM: Spam comments on my blog are increasing by the truck load and it is a good thing Wordpress has an effective anti-spam comment and trackback mechanism in Askimet. I am not sure whether it is Spambots doing it or a group of people sitting around the computer all day putting spam stuff on blogs. Just a note to those guys and the spammers out there, don’t you know that my blog is moderated and it will never be approved - even if it does get pass Askimet? Hmmm, I guess there ARE some people out there that push the Science of Stupidity to a new level.

Hey Dad: I have to admit that I do get a little emotional when I see nice things written about dads, it just reminds me of my dad whom I lost several years ago - the wounds have yet to heal. Citizen of the month writes a moving post about his dad (who’s anniversary of his passing happens to be today) and how he engaged his blogosphere readers to help him decide what to write on his father’s stone … “Be of Good Cheer”.

A Little Note 2 My Wife: Mr. Fab, probably rubbed off a little on me when he published a sweet and thoughtful article about his wife and how wonderful she is. Well, I just wanted to say to J (a.k.a. my wife, wifey, sweetpie etc.) … you are the best, I love you and you are my heart and soul! xxxxoxoxoxo

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Thank you for your vote!! I have prepared a brief 45-minute acceptance speech which I will read to my wife this evening. Seriously it was a fun project–learned a lot, too!

Kris: those articles are great - I had a hard time trying to choose. the “how to destroy the earth with a coffee can” one supposely received 60,000 digg hits in 2 days according to the author.

Mr. Fab: What can I say, that’s why you are called Mr. Fab-u-lous … need I say more? ;-)
