As reported by The Register, the open source community is in a state of shock at the news that Microsoft has acquired Firefox and released a Microsoft version of the popular browser Firefox. The audacious move, which pretty well guarantees Redmond control of the entire browser market, will be received with dismay among those who previously believed that the might of Bill Gates’ checkbook could, and should, be resisted.

Sorry… This is just a hoax (or so I believe it is). It is a pretty good (and funny) fake by some group of guys that have nothing better to do. I apologize beforehand if I caused any temporary distress.

Yeah, it’s a hoax. Firefox and the open source community in general would NEVER go for such an idea.
A lot of people bought into the whole thing, and some were just freaking out.
Imagine how crappy Firefox, etc would become if MS took it over. *shudders*

I walked around my work place in state of shock for a while until I had a chance to sit down and read their website. Then I nearly cried from laughter!
