The England Soccer team in the 2006 World Cup had only themselves to blame. They were their own worst enemy and the problem was within the whole team. Being a fan of the Engand football (soccer) team, the biggest mistake I believe Sven Ericksson made was including Theo Walcott in the squad. He might be good but why bring an unproven guy that has never played before in a Premiership game to the World Cup?? What was he thinking? With that stupid decision, that left England without proper “depth” up front especially when Michael Owen was injured. You don’t expect to win in the World Cup if you don’t have depth… especially if you have 4 strikers, with only 1 of which is fit i.e. Crouch. The second mistake was trying to play a clearly unfit Wayne Rooney upfront on his own. The England team always finds ways to lose the game rather than try to win it - and this clearly showed it.
