Found this printed card when I was clearing my drawer out. I believe my mom gave it to me years ago when I left for college.

Don’t Quit
by Anonymous

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As everyone of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about

When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow -

You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out –

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far;

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –

It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

    Hey, I know this poem! My English teacher made us memorize it when I was a senior in high school. It’s a really nice poem, isn’t it? :)

    I only made it halfway through that.

    Did it say anything important?

    ;-)

    Hey I like this one too. It’s the flip-side to my “be bold” philosophy. Once you’ve been brave enough to take the first steps, you gotta see it through. I’m quitting smoking today so this is a good one for me (though the “don’t quit” bit might need some imaginative rewording ;)

    Tep: this is definitely a good poem to remember!

    WriteJerry: lol… you’re too funny.

    Bean: Good luck in your smoke quitting goal! yes, the “don’t quit” poem may need little rewording in your case ;-)

    I LOVE this poem, I’ve got it posted at my site too. I go back and read it whenever I need a little kick in the pants to get re-focused.

    OMG, I adore this poem. It’s framed in my guest room upstairs. (Yes, I am now well off enough to have a guest room. Woo Hoo!) We had a conversation going yesterday about how people rise to positions of power, and one of the top three things that crossed my mind was just sheer tenacity.

    Sometimes it’s hard to think about continuing on, and I am a firm believer in taking a periodic rest and not pressing, pressing, pressing all the time. BUT, life will always be filled with challenges, so it’s just better to take those darn lemons and make some sweety sweet lemonade! (Not that I’m always so chipper about it, sometimes it’s just suckage.)
