J and I tried a new restaurant for dinner yesterday. It was a buffet style all you can eat Chinese restaurant.
They had an wide assortment of Chinese dishes, seafood and dessert to choose from. With over 80 different dishes, it’s probably one of the biggest buffets we have been to. Fried noodles, Coconut shrimp, Honey Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef with green peppers, Stir Fried green beans etc. .. they were De-Li-Cious!
The steamed crab was one of the most popular dishes and the moment the cook brought it out and placed in inside the warming tray, you could just see the diners flock to it like vultures (with an almost riot-like pushing and shoving to get to the front of the line). It took just a couple of minutes from the time the cook came out, placed it on the warming tray, till it was gone. Those who didn’t get it, waited around the tray till the cook came out with his next batch and they were prepared to wait for a long time, selfishly pilling up their plates when it did come.
The problem with buffets is that you tend to eat too much — even if one promised not to. At the end of the dinner, I did get a stomach ache from eating too much. It was my own doing, but how could I resist the temptation of so many dishes and delicious food around me and not trying them. As usual, J was the sensible one and she knew when to stop when she was full. We ended up spending too much time at the restaurant and missed the movie (Wild Hogs) that we were supposed to see by about 20 minutes.
Solution: Never go to a buffet again.

I love buffets because of the variety of food available but I’m never able to eat enough to justify the cost. The restaurants really make out when I visit!

I find my eyes are bigger than my stomach in situations like that. When I see a buffet place, or all you can eat, I think to myself ‘Yeah, I’ll have some of that, couple of those’, etc and only end up having a plate full of stuff before I’m full. So maybe you eat more than you should at these things, but at least it is economically viable for you :) it’s expensive for me. I shall have to remember this the next time it’s an option and just have an ordinary meal. The worst one I find is at pizzaria’s, always think I can eat more than I actually can *sigh*.

I am a sucker for buffets, I always want to get my money’s worth!
Thank goodness my favourite buffet now has a sushi bar, so I can fill up on that before going to the hot stuff. That way I don’t eat too much of the fried, grease-laden foods.
But I always leave room for dessert!

You’re right. You eat way too much at a buffet. But you know, it is all you can eat, right? :P
We have a chinese buffet here that we go to all the time. It’s great. They’re only ok on a few dishes which I’d rather have freshly made instead of sitting up at the buffet, but other than that, no complaints. :)
Reminds me of one place in st.louis, we went to chinese buffet for lunch, and happened to see a cockroach running around the buffet area.
never ate there again. hehe

kailani: I think that is my problem… I always try to eat what I paid for and more ;-) J is like you too, but us men… we are just pigs
rache: with the good dishes you make and write about all the time … now why would you even consider eating out :-) oh and pizza… another one of my weaknesses.
teresa: yup… “wanting to get your money’s worth” is the worse thing you can say at a buffet. don’t particularly like sushi and i rarely make it to dessert being so full.
yoshi: finding a cockroach! that is gross! btw, what is the name of that buffet place so I stay clear of it if I do go to St Louis… (if it wasn’t already shut down)
