I was watching American Idol for the past couple of days and it was just dreadful! It seems that they (FOX) are merely concentrating on the bad singers and nothing more. They have to stop that as it is getting real old.
I can only think of 5 good ones they showed in all 4 hours of the opening two premiere episodes (two of them being the Indian siblings and the 16 year old African American girl). I would prefer to see a balance of showing good and bad rather than concentrating on all the hilarious, weird looking and bad sounding ones. Either they have a serious lack of talent this season or they are saving the best for the later episodes.
My feelings on this weeks 2 opening episodes were that they were letting irrelevant individuals get too much air time. J and I were left saying “enough already, get on with it!” many times throughout e.g. the celebrations, the crying, the swearing were just a little too long. It is also getting too predictable and repetitious when they interview someone (who claims to have been singing since they were 5, have a degree in music, in a band etc.) that they are going to audition horribly. It seems to me that they were really stretching out the show to fit the 4 hours without any *quality* material to work with.
What really gets on my nerves too is the way people go into an audition, in front of live TV and think that acting silly/ stupid, doing silly tricks, wearing stupid costumes are going to get the judges to perk up and choose them. And when they don’t get chosen, they wonder why, get mad, swear and blame it on the judges. Common people! (Bah! I am really taking this way too seriously, am I?)
Fox and their producers really need to go back to the drawing board and carve out a better way to present the whole show. What was suppose to be a so-called showcase of Americas talent has now gone to the other extreme of showing bad talent just because it was funny and amusing at one time. It has become a little monotonous now and I am just waiting to see more of the good singers rather than stupid ones that just come on live TV to get their few minutes of fame in front of the camera.
Then again, I am forgetting that this is Reality TV.

I so agree with you. It felt more like the Gong Show.
Be safe…

I have been watching Idol also. Yes, all bad singers for the most part. When the female reservist was on, I didnt think she did that great. But when the judges were talking about their decision, it seemed like there was someone behind the camera telling them what to decide.
But back to the bad singers. I have to wonder how many of them have been coached by the producers to react badly in the name of “good tv”. After all, they get on the air. Most have got to know they arent THAT good and would be eliminated. Would you rather be eliminated on or off camera? I think for the chance to be on tv, most would opt to play along.

Two Observations:
Randy is a lot more callous this year. He has simoned a few of them this year already. And two, I am suspicious that most of these bad people are actors (not necessarily professional), but they have to KNOW that they are bad.
I guess AI feels that the showcase part will happen starting in Hollywood. You only have to endure one round of losers.

I agree. It makes you forget that the focus of the show is to find a good singer.

That’s why I don’t watch until Hollywood week. It’s more for ratings then anything else. It’s embarassing to watch.

It doesn’t seem like the public minds watching the lack of talent. Last night’s premiere had huge ratings! Let’s hope for more success in future weeks.

I agree to a certain extent, but I have to admit, in past years, I’ve only watch the first few episodes to see all the silly people. I hate reality TV! How horrible is that? I mean, generally I’m a nice person, but seeing all those obviously bad people who think they’re awesome is my guilty pleasure. Oh man, I do sound mean!
This year, however, I am going to try to watch it though to the end. No harm in that right? Maybe I’ll be able to find some pleasure in it, other than the embarrasing people at the begining.

Did you see that kid who was convinced he was destined for fame? He was horrible! When he came out of the audition room, he was crying and saying his career is over. His Mom consoled him by saying that he will be famous one day. Huh?
