It is normal to have a lot of snow here in Ohio. Yesterday morning, I had an appointment to make and had parked across the street as the parking lot (at the building I was suppose to go to) was full. While walking there, I had sidestepped to avoid a pile of snow only to feel myself sinking into a snow covered puddle. Never would I have been able to avoid it as the thin sheet of ice and snow covering the hole just made it look like part of the pavement.

Not particularly sure how deep the hole was, but it was certainly deep enough to fit almost half of my left leg. So here I was going through the day with half a side of muddy/ wet jeans, damp shoes and socks. I hated the feeling of damp soggy socks especially wearing it for that long (almost 3/4 of the day). Reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day when Bill Murray steps into that puddle and gets a muddy/wet left side (or was it the right side?).

Note to myself: put a pair of jeans, extra socks and shoes in my trunk just in case this happens again.

I received an email today from Yahoo!, it was an invite to try out their new Yahoo! Publisher’s Network (YPN) Ads program. Coveted around the web as it is still in its Beta stage and not open to the general public yet … so participating is by invite only (although you can sign up to be on a waiting list now).

I do feel the the love from Yahoo! And very privileged indeed.

Not familiar with YPN ads? it is the equivalent of Google Adsense with a supposedly better payout and tailored to sites with a smaller audience. Like Google Adsense, YPN will allow a site to earn revenue everytime someone clicks on an ad. I have decided to try it out, so you might see some ads here and there on The Foo Logs. Have tried to not make the ads suffocatingly annoying, but tell me if it is.

It has been reported that the new Microsoft Vista operating system will be offered as a download at the end of the month. I anticipate network lags, (slow) connection problems and ISP server overloads with people from around the world trying to download the whole operating system at the same time. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) better be prepared for this!

Curious to see how this event will unfold and how it’ll effect everyone globally. Microsoft support staff will probably be working overtime when it is released. Techzoogle reported how it would offer extra options as well like Windows Anytime Upgrade, Family Discounts and Online Marketplace “claiming to give customers more flexibility when using the new operating system”.

Those loving it would probably be the computer techs out there (e.g. Geek Squad) that could potentially be called out to fix problems. They’ll be laughing all the way to the bank. Just my 2 cents.

I love the Simpsons! Managed to find this on YouTube. This happens to be the same one I saw at the movies last weekend.

I was watching American Idol for the past couple of days and it was just dreadful! It seems that they (FOX) are merely concentrating on the bad singers and nothing more. They have to stop that as it is getting real old.

I can only think of 5 good ones they showed in all 4 hours of the opening two premiere episodes (two of them being the Indian siblings and the 16 year old African American girl). I would prefer to see a balance of showing good and bad rather than concentrating on all the hilarious, weird looking and bad sounding ones. Either they have a serious lack of talent this season or they are saving the best for the later episodes.

My feelings on this weeks 2 opening episodes were that they were letting irrelevant individuals get too much air time. J and I were left saying “enough already, get on with it!” many times throughout e.g. the celebrations, the crying, the swearing were just a little too long. It is also getting too predictable and repetitious when they interview someone (who claims to have been singing since they were 5, have a degree in music, in a band etc.) that they are going to audition horribly. It seems to me that they were really stretching out the show to fit the 4 hours without any *quality* material to work with.

What really gets on my nerves too is the way people go into an audition, in front of live TV and think that acting silly/ stupid, doing silly tricks, wearing stupid costumes are going to get the judges to perk up and choose them. And when they don’t get chosen, they wonder why, get mad, swear and blame it on the judges. Common people! (Bah! I am really taking this way too seriously, am I?)

Fox and their producers really need to go back to the drawing board and carve out a better way to present the whole show. What was suppose to be a so-called showcase of Americas talent has now gone to the other extreme of showing bad talent just because it was funny and amusing at one time. It has become a little monotonous now and I am just waiting to see more of the good singers rather than stupid ones that just come on live TV to get their few minutes of fame in front of the camera.

Then again, I am forgetting that this is Reality TV.

By now you should know that I love the muppets. I was browsing through YouTube today and managed to find this video feed. It sure brings back childhood memories. Do you remember it? … it is the Mana Mana song by the out of control rocker and the two pink sheep/cow looking muppets. It’s too funny!

Beware, the tune will stick in your head for days after you hear it.

We went to see Ben Stiller’s Night at the Museum on the weekend and I was actually pleasantly surprised. We nearly missed this one because we had read in the newspaper and on the web about how bad it was. One critic also went as far as to say that it was his worse film ever.

My response to the critics is — what movie were they actually watching? I thought it was very entertaining and funny, a good family movie. Critics need to keep things in proper perspective. Honestly, if you are going to watch a Ben Stiller movie and critic the acting, you are really watching the wrong movie.

If you haven’t watched it, this is about a jobless guy who is forced to accept a job at a museum as a graveyard shift security guard. Little does he know that when the sunsets, all the museums wax figures and exhibits actually come to life. Throughout his experience, Larry Daley (Stiller) will figure out how to improve himself as a security guard, show that he is a responsible dad to his kid and learn how to handle the true to life museum characters — Attila the Hun, cowboys, Roman soldiers, wax figures, mummies, and of course the Tyrannosaurus Rex. He also finds out the main reason to why they come alive with some quite hilarious and chaotic problems associated with it.

Go see it, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Forget the critics and judge the movie for yourself.

Also, the *before the movie* trailers were awesome. This is going to be a good year for movies with my favorite comic/tv characters coming to the big screen … Ghostrider, Fantastic 4: The Birth of the Silver Surfer, Transformers the Movie, Spiderman 3 and Simpsons the Movie. Can’t wait!

Wow, this has been a busy week such that I didn’t even have time to write on my blog. Through my lack of blogging this week, I failed to notice that I reached another milestone yesterday — that The Foo Logs has received 50,000 hits/ unique visitors!

It’s a personal achievement and a great comfort to think that many out there appreciate what I write. I would like to also think that I am at least doing something right to get that amount of hits within 8 months. I am not sure how it compares to the rest of the blogging community but nevertheless it feels great!

All the more to continue blogging! :biggrin_wp:

At church yesterday, my Pastor’s read out two sentences in her sermon that stuck in my mind and were very powerful indeed, “A great person picks himself up, dusts off his disappointments he has encountered, learns from it and pushes forward… a mediocre person just cries over what has happened and longs for pity.”

It’s befitting of how life’s disappointments should be dealt with. Relating to my life, I have had my fair share of disappointments, and I must say that at times I was both the great person and mediocre person alike. It’s logical to think that part of me being successful in this lifetime is to try to be more of that great person she talked about and less of the mediocre person.

Maybe to be that great person is one of the keys to my life’s happiness, and to be that so-called complete & self fulfilled person. That goes beyond all the richness of money, the awards, and the superficial accolades one can get in this lifetime.

Life is a big test, and constant lesson. I believe the greater the person you are (in this way), the more fulfilled life will be for you. So I’ll have this to add to my ever growing life achieving list… to be a great person spiritually and mentally.
